Soon, maintenance and engineering managers are likely to have a blueprint for energy efficiency. Well, they'll have blueprint for a blueprint, at least. The blueprint will come thanks to the Federal Buildings Personnel Training Act of 2010, which was enacted in December 2010. The act requires that within 18 months of enactment, the General Services Administration must identify the essential skills and training front-line technicians in federal facilities need to be able to operate and maintain buildings energy efficiently. It is no surprise that an eclectic and progressive city like San Francisco would be home to the smartest green building in the world. The newly constructed San Francisco Public Utility Commission, which provides retail drinking water, waste-water and green hydroelectric and solar power services to Bay Area municipalities, has raised the bar quite high for energy efficiency and sustainability. More The Key to Improving Your Availability is FRACAS — AFE Webinar May 17 AFE Share ![]() ![]() ![]()
Before you can make meaningful improvements to equipment reliability and availability, you have to collect all the pertinent information in a manner that makes it available for analysis. Part of the problem is capturing it from the trades, part is in capturing it in real time, and part is capturing it in a useable format. You then have to analyze that data to find a way to keep the event from happening again. In this session, you will see how to take a problem step-by-step from event initiation through solution implementation and learn simple ways to improve data capture, how to store it and how to use it. You'll learn a simple, step-by-step method of failure analysis and management, how to collect good data about your failures, analyze the data to find out what caused the failure, develop a solution that will prevent the failure from reoccurring, develop a procedure to apply the solution, and how to implement the procedure. 3 steps to improve indoor air quality Buildings Share ![]() ![]() ![]()
Maintaining good indoor air quality is one of the most important aspects of facility maintenance because it directly affects the health, productivity and comfort of building occupants. Even modern, well-ventilated buildings can have poor indoor air quality. In fact, both the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the World Health Organization recognize "Sick Building Syndrome" and "Building-Related Illness" as serious conditions occurring from new and remodeled buildings worldwide.
